Sometimes a sales increase is as easy as returning to your core business and paying attention to what the customer wants.
Double-digit sales increase
At a recent Franchise Business Network meeting in Dallas, a member of the audience told how he had helped a well-known convenience store franchise gain double-digit sales growth.
“When we cleaned out a store and remodeled it, we discovered we could get a double-digit sales increase,” he explained.
Uh-oh, no permits, no contractor, no remodel
However, on one occasion his crew cleaned out a store but did not have a contractor lined up to do the remodel in time for the re-opening. There was a problem getting permits.
“So we cleaned up the store, put things where they were supposed to be, and re-opened,” he explained. “And we got a double-digit sales increase!”
Result: same double-digit sales growth
The remodeling wasn’t necessary after all. The gentleman explained, “Without any additional investment, we got the same growth just by paying attention operationally to the core business and providing what the customer really wanted, which was a clean store with the right product mix.”
The message is clear for franchisors and franchisees:
Focus on your core business. Take care of the customer. And sales will follow.
